Smediting

“To Write is Human. To Edit is Divine.” - Stephen King

Is it cliché to quote the most famous writer of all time? As I navigate the editing process I’ve never felt that quote to be truer, though. It hasn’t always been pretty, but it has all been necessary. I feel the book becoming better each step of the way, but in between each step is a thousand little steps requiring me to think about the words that are easy to zoom past when trying to write the best thing ever. I don’t think it’s possible for every sentence to be the best sentence ever, but the hope is that the individual parts become the greatest version of the whole. For people familiar with the pig skin sport, I’d compare this to the “no name defense” theory. Aka no specific person (or part) is extremely remarkable, but when in combination with ten other people who do their job, and nothing more or less, success is found. So, when I sit here and stare at these words for hours on end, I don’t want one brushstroke to keep me from creating a beautiful canvas. It doesn’t seem worth my time to get caught up on the little things when I know the reader will only remember the big thing. At least, that’s how I currently feel towards the editing process. I’m sure there is a perfect balance out there I will find and feel at peace about in the art after years of practice and reps. But, this is my first one so I’m still making it all up as I go. :) Also, what if I don’t have anything else to say anyway?

I say all that to say we are close. Very close.

Furthermore, why smedit when you could smoney?

The reason for the smeason: Luv 4 Rent - Smino

  • Some of my favorite memories in life come from running around St. Louis with sketchy characters throughout college. I started listening to Smino right around the time I departed the Lou (2017-ish) and haven't stopped since. One of my goals in life is to be in the 314 when he drops an album so we can all run out in the street and vibe until we can’t anymore. In summation, shout out Smino Da Vinci for making great music.
